SERVING IN SPAIN
This is a time when the Good News of Christ is needed both personally and socially in the lives of those who live in this city. We believe that, through the Gospel of Christ, God can bring transformation to Madrid.
WHY SPAIN?
The Roman Catholic Church, Spain's national church, claims membership between 92% and 96% of the Spanish population. Yet, increasing numbers of Spaniards, especially those under 40, aren't connected with the church and view institutionalized Christianity as irrelevant.
Traditional religion has failed to offer Spaniards a personal relationship with God and a viable, attractive worldview to compete with the onslaught of secularism and materialism. What appeals to most Spaniards is either something more mystical (e.g., New Ageism) or, more commonly, they just want to pasarlo bien (have a good time). The primary focus of peoples' lives becomes having fun and being comfortable: eating, drinking and being merry.
The consequences of living a secular existence and trying to fill the God-shaped vacuum that exists in us all are many. The breakdown of the family and marriage, infidelity, divorce, abortion on demand, growth in the use of drugs and alcohol, and many other things are evidence that Spaniards need to know Jesus Christ.
We pray that God will use our lives to draw many Madrileños to Jesus Christ, and that we would see many vibrant, reproducing churches planted in Madrid.
VISION
We are in Spain to assist in planting new churches. We will not be the primary church planters, but will facilitate the planting of churches.
Our modus operandi will be to pray hard and work hard to enable, encourage and train others to plant churches. We will be deeply involved in evangelism, discipleship, training, and coaching to help nationals plant new churches.
We will leverage our gifts, skills, leadership, time, and resources to the full, but we won't create ministries dependent upon us. We want to see national churches planted and led by national pastors and national lay leaders.
A huge influx of Eastern Europeans, Latin Americans and North Africans is tremendously impacting the evangelical church in Spain. Spaniards are the least reached, hardest to reach, and the neediest spiritually in this country. We prefer to reach and train Spaniards without ignoring the opportunity to reach and train immigrants.
We will continually seek God's leading as we grow in our relationships with team members and nationals, as we better understand our context, and as doors for ministry open and close.
We are willing and aggressively looking for innovative and non-traditional approaches to reach Spaniards with the Gospel.
JOIN US
As we continue to build and expand Team Madrid, we are looking for people with a wide variety of gifts whom God is calling to serve in Spain.
Some of our current needs are:
Trainers to equip nationals in ministry skills for church planting including evangelism, discipleship and preaching, and to mentor national church planters.
Business entrepreneurs to open a restaurant or coffee bar/book store which would serve as a base for evangelism.
Creative people to develop bridge-building ministries through music, arts, theatre, sports or community services.
Teachers and administrators to develop an English ministry.
Young people to develop outreach to high school and/or university students.
